| Chantale Bégin - Director of Scientific Research, Caribbean |
|
Chantale began her marine biology career in the cold waters of Canada, completing her BSc at Dalhousie University and MSc at Université Laval, Québec. After years of dry suit diving to study marine invertebrates in the freezing waters of the St. Lawrence and Gulf of Maine, she got involved in tropical research while studying coral recruitment in the Caribbean. In 2003 she joined Sea|mester as a marine biology and oceanography instructor. Chantale began sailing early in her career while researching whales in the South Pacific and now holds a USCG OUPV and IYT Master of Yachts 200 ton Offshore. She is a PADI Diving Instructor and loves to introduce students to scientific diving. After 5 years of sailing and teaching full time with Sea|mester she started her PhD in coral reef ecology and conservation at Simon Fraser University, Canada. She now coordinates the field work and data collection that our students participate in every semester on the Caribbean voyage, and facilitates hands-on learning of ecology and conservation through participation in high calibre research.
